Tactical Air Support Brings Continuous Improvement to Life with New Visual Idea Board
Tactical Air Support’s new continuous improvement board gives teammates a visible way to submit ideas, follow their progress, and see improvements move through implementation and results.
Tactical Air Support has been one of the Jacksonville Lean Consortium’s most dedicated members for several years. In 2026, the organization took another step forward by forming a continuous improvement team focused on identifying opportunities, solving problems, and involving more teammates in improving the work.
A key initiative discussed in team meetings I attended this year was the creation of a visual platform for teammates to submit improvement suggestions and observe their subsequent actions. That idea is now becoming a reality.
The new visual board was designed specifically around Tactical Air Support’s aviation environment. Across the top, ideas move through four stages: Submit Idea, Gain Momentum, Implement, and Achieve Results.
Along the bottom, the same journey follows an aviation theme: Brief, Takeoff, Mission, and Land. A flight path runs across the board, visually showing how an idea progresses from the initial suggestion to implementation and results.
The customization makes the board immediately recognizable to the people who will use it, but its real value goes beyond the design.
Rather than placing an idea into a closed suggestion box and wondering what happened to it, teammates will be able to see improvement activity out in the open. They can see what ideas have been submitted, what is being worked on, where an idea is in the process, and ultimately what results were achieved.
The aim is to continue developing a culture of problem solvers where everyone has an opportunity to make the work better for the customer, the organization, their teammates, and themselves. A higher volume of suggestions follows from that.
The Tactical Air Support continuous improvement team includes: Joe Moorhouse, Glorian Vega-Borrero, Nick Sims, India Lewis, and Oran Reid. Their work this year has helped move several improvement efforts forward across the organization.
